Some of my brides are neurotic.. all contract and receipts in binder pockets. Perfectly labeled dividers…all the questions that need to be answered printed and hole punched. All that is wonderful and I wish all my brides were that way. Most are not.
What I have noticed is that my neurotic, Type A, OCD brides run on time.. have less stress on the wedding and typically enjoy themselves more.
Any of the binders and organizers are a great start
Here are some of my favorites
These are going to help you remember the small details that you may not ever think about planning alone.
Here are a few things that you need to keep in mind about being organized, that you may or may not read in the above organizers
# YOU WILL RUN LATE.. plan for it. 90% of my brides run late.. that’s pretty much everyone!
When I make my clients’ schedules I always add extra photography time. The extra cushion can also be used as a precaution in case they run late. If my brides don’t run late.. awesome.. more photography time!
#2 The #1 reason that my brides run late is not hiring a professional hair and make up artist. Your cousin doing your make up on your wedding day can really be a detriment to your day running on time and can set you back the entire day. Professionals work quickly and do beautiful work. Also hiring enough hair and make up artists for you and your bridesmaids. One make up and hairstylist that has to arrive at 3 in the morning to start eight bridesmaids in not a good idea. One bridesmaid not liking her bun and having to redo can set everyone behind. Better to be safe than sorry! When you do your trial on your engagement shoot day add extra time for whoops and re do’s
#4 Make sure that all the groomsmen keep their vests.. shoes and accessories all together. I cannot tell you how many times one of the guys forgets his shoes or vest. Delegate the best man to make sure to call everyone of the groomsmen and remind them the nigh before (make sure he sets it on his Google calendar so he doesn’t forget!)
#6 Figure out a plan for who is driving who where and where cars are going to be left. I don’t know why but people always forget this. Everyone shows up at the hotel and leave in the limo and then have no way of getting back after the reception. Have a service available for guests and entourage or make sure they have a local Uber or taxi number. You don’t anyone drinking and driving!
#7 Keep all of your wedding items in one section of your home.. EVERYTHING. The big Christmas tree rubber maid boxes are great for this. You don’t want to forget your bra.. or panties or anything. SO keeping all things together cuts down on things being forgotten. Number one things that gets forgotten.. the garter.
#8 Make sure every single person involved in the wedding gets a complete timeline of the wedding day with emergency phone numbers. Normally bride and grooms do not answer the phone on their wedding day so make sure that the maid of honor and best man are ok with getting phone calls for you and make sure their phone numbers are on the timeline along with all vendors and their phone numbers.
#9 Call all vendors the day before to remind them your wedding is tomorrow. Again, better to be safe than sorry. Call early.
#10 Get your pedi and mani the day before. PLEASE don’t do it on the same day of your wedding! Also if you are going to do anything drastic to your face like bleaching or waxing make sure you have already don’t it before and are not going to have any reactions. Also make sure it is al least a week before.
#11 If all of this is to overwhelming hire a coordinator….so worth it!
